A new month brings new opportunities to check out some live music in Puerto Rico, featuring salsa, pop, and more. February is the Valentine's Day month, and the concert options include several events around the special day, el "Día del Amor y la Amistad" (The Day of Love and Friendship), as it's often called in Puerto Rico. Here is a list featuring some of the concerts happening on the island, mostly in the metro area.

1.Tribute to the Messiah: Eddie Palmieri — February 7

Eddie Palmieri is an award-winning pianist, arranger and bandleader who founded several the band La Perfecta, and worked with fellow legendary musicians, such as singer Cheo Feliciano and timbalero Tito Puente. "His playing skillfully fuses the rhythm of his Puerto Rican heritage with the complexity of his jazz influences: Thelonius Monk, Herbie Hancock, McCoy Tyner, as well as his older brother, Charlie Palmieri," according to his website. In this tribute at the Coca-Cola Music Hall, musicians Herman Olivera, Nelson González, and Little Johnny Rivero will under the direction of Humberto Ramírez. The concert also includes special guests David Sánchez and Richie Flores.

2.Pedro Capó — February 8

Pedro Capó is a singer-songwriter known for songs like "La Fiesta", "Calma" for which he released a remix with fellow Boricua Farruko, and "Tutu" with Colombian star Camilo. Catch him singing songs from his Latin pop, pop rock repertoire at the Coliseo José Miguel Agrelot, or Choliseo, as it's known locally.

3.Conciertos en Familia: La Música de Roberto Milano — February 9

Roberto Milano was a distinguished profesor and composer at the Conservatorio de Música de Puerto Rico, where this concert marking 20 years since his passing, is taking place per Ticket Center. This music conservatory is an important cultural institution of the island; faculty, students and alumni will be participating in the event, under the direction of Emmanuel Olivieri.

4.Pimpinela — February 9

Pimpinela, the Argentinian pop duo comprised of siblings Joaquin and Lucia Galan, are making a stop at the Coca-Cola Music Hall for their Noticias Del Amor Tour. They've sold millions of albums and have celebrated more than 40 years in music. Among their hits that fans are likely to recognize are: "Olvídame y pega la vuelta, "Ni contigo ni sin ti" and "Agua y aceite."

5.Glenn Monroig — February 14

For the folks spending Valentine's Day in western Puerto Rico, there's a concert you can go to at the Mayaguez Resort & Casino: Glenn Monroig will be performing a variety of ballads and some of his greatest hits. Like many artists on this list, he has performed throughout Puerto Rico and internationally during his long career, which includes Spanish-language versions of songs originally recorded in English.

6.Ednita Nazario — February 14

"La Diva" Ednita Nazario is holding a concert on Valentine's Day at the Choliseo. She has been singing publicly since she was a child and spent some time as part of a children's singing group. A lot of her songs explore female empowerment and liberation, and with this concert whose title is a play on the words "amor" and "desamor", loosely translated as "love" and "heartbreak", the event is sure to be an emotional one.

7.Chucho Avellanet — February 15

Chucho Avellanet will be singing at the Club Tropicoro at the Fairmont San Juan Hotel in the Isla Verde region. He's been active in music for more than 5 decades and first gained notoriety as a solo artist as part of the 'Nueva Ola' — a group of young singers including Lucecita and Lissette, many of which he has sung with over the years and are also still performing today. This concert is titled "Esta Noche Está Para Boleros," so concertgoers can probably expect a lot of romantic songs on the setlist.
